Sadly, It Has Come To Scrapping The Metal

Oh, the beauty of a metal roof.   Do you see how gorgeous that is?   The sound of it on a rainy day is mesmerizing and soothes the soul.  And if you know me at all, you KNOW that I adore the rain.  Especially when there is thunder and lightning! And since I was a girl, i have dreamed of  the day when I  would have an old yellow house with a metal roof.
When we bought this house 6 1/2 years ago, we began making plans for the future of this house and of course they included the tin roof and the yellow.   Now that the time has come to buy roofing, we have spent the last 3 weeks getting estimates looking at color samples.  We definitely wanted a light colored metal roof because it is energy efficient. It would last three times as long, looking and sounding amazing.
But here’s the problem.  We have to make choices. Like everything else in life, there is a balance to what is the best for all of us when it comes to the house we are building.  Last Friday we had the colors down to 2 for the metal roof, and we had chosen the company we were going with.
Believe it or not, it wasn’t Travis who put on the brakes.  He wanted to stick to the plan, knowing that it will slow down the other parts of construction because of the cost.  The more I thought about it, I new that this is not where we needed to be investing on an “extra”.  We’re not planning on being here 20, 30, or 40  years. We’re planning for ten. Maybe fifteen?
The difference between the metal and the shingles is huge. To do only the addition in metal would have cost triple the amount it would cost us to reshingle the entire house.  I just couldn’t do it.  It’s against everything in me to spend money like that.
So this whole month of deciding feels like such a waste!  I’m glad that we’ve finally agreed to “scrap” the metal roof. I’m a little overwhelmed with the idea of choosing the shingle color by FRIDAY!!!  That’s what I get.Pfft…

So, now I’m looking at all of these different yellow houses, trying to decide what direction to go with this. And getting rid of the green is priority number one!  We had been so certain that we would have a white roof. But white shingles?  I don’t think so.  This is really messing with the color scheme in my head. We totally have to start over!

Many people just like the idea of a brown roof with a yellow house. It was Trav's first choice, and my mom thinks it's the best. I'm just not feeling it. Am I wrong?

A lighter mustard yellow. I like the color, but do I want the roof darker? Does it look to washed out?
The red roof is crazy bold. But if the yellow were a little bit muted, wouldn’t that look cool? Unfortunately, the house across the street has a red roof and I’ve made fun of it before. But ours would be cool, right?
I LOVE this one. Maybe a little lighter on the mustard color. And sadly our house will never look this cool, but I can copy the colors, can’t I?
Not going for a lemon color. This is too bright, but I the dark charcoal  gray roof is nice. I think?

Have an opinion? What do you think?  Help me out and post a comment. I mean, we can only go topless so long on this house. The roof needs to go on on Saturday!
